Serenity's Scientific Investigation Process

The Scientific Investigation Process

Step 1: Question - A statement that requires an answer, about what you are going to answer, needs to be something about what you can measure. Also pacifically starts with what when where and why .

Step 2: Research- use resources such as books and the Internet to perform background research on your question. Gathering information now will help prepare you for the next step in the Scientific Method.

Step 3: Hypothesis - Using your background research and current knowledge, make a guess that answers your question. Your hypothesis should be simple statement that expresses what you think happen.

Step 4: Experiment - Plan your procedure and conduct an experiment that tests your hypothesis. The experiment should be a fair test that changes only on variable at a time while keeping everything else the same. Repeat the experiment a number of times to ensure your original results weren’t an accident. Always do a fair test when you are experimenting. Variable is when experiments are different.

Step 5: Data - Collect data and record the progress of your experiment. Document your results with detailed measurements, descriptions and observations in the form of notes,  journal entries, photo, charts and graphs.

Step 6: Observation -  Describe the observation you made during your experiments. Include information that could have affected your results.
Step 7 : Conclusion - Analyse the data you collected and summarise your results in written form. use the information to answer your question, Do the results support your hypothesis.

Last step (Step 8)  Communication - Present your findings.
